Behind the Program

The AdTech Therapy approach came out of real conversations, real problems, and, yes, sometimes real tears.

After more than a decade leading media operations at Leaf Group, Scott Messer left in late 2022—just as the ad tech industry was entering another round of fragmentation, layoffs, and uncertainty. But rather than step away from the space, Scott leaned in. On his very first day post-Leaf, he flew to Programmatic I/O in New York and started talking to people. What he heard over and over—especially from publishers—was ad tech pain.

Entire teams were stuck with DIY systems they didn’t trust. Some were already in yield intensive care with revenue flatlining and no one from RevOps watching vitals. CFOs wanting clarity, CROs wanting growth, and stacks that weren’t delivering either. 

That’s when the idea of our brand of began taking shape: a way to help teams and execs diagnose their issues, rebuild smarter, and regain control. At first, Scott ran informal sessions with fellow consultant Jana Meron to help companies untangle programmatic messes, make sense of their data, and put together workable plans for growth. Jana brought her own therapeutic lens to the work, allowing teams to get honest, build trust, and stay comfortable being uncomfortable.

Their name stuck. So did the approach.
